CFL Aftermath

While Thursday got off to a rough start after partying the night away with guests at the CFL Fun Fearless Awards, and now that it’s Friday I’m exhausted and ready for some well deserved sleep. Fridays are typically pretty slow during the summer because most client companies have “summer fridays” which either means that they leave early, or don’t come in at all (not to shabby). It’s hard to not wish I was out enjoying this beautiful, sunny day in New York, however working at Cosmopolitan doesn’t exactly feel like work. Fortunately for me, there were many left over goodie bags from last night’s event so the freebies are up for grabs and I’m taking advantage! Free makeup, Macy’s gift cards and spa coupons? You had me at free. Everything that I do is so much fun, that calling it “work” just doesn’t even seem fair. Every day work is a new breath of fresh air; there’s always something new and exciting to work on, it’s definitely hard to complain.

Next Wednesday, CFDA and Cosmopolitan are teaming up for the 2014 Fashion Career Summit and it’s sure to be incredible. Special guests include Joanna Coles (the Editor-in-Chief of Cosmopolitan), Rebecca Minkoff, the always memorable Man-Repeller blogger, and a few surprise guests that I am not yet allowed to disclose. I’m a big fan of Rebecca Minkoff and I can’t wait to hear what she has to say about breaking into the industry and forging your own way, as well as Joanna Coles, one of the most respected women in the industry. Stay tuned for more details on that event.

Ironically enough, today one of my tasks was to research fashion bloggers in NYC that were interested in doing a collaboration with Cosmopolitan. I didn’t volunteer my blog, I’m not sure my follower count is up to parr… Alas, it’s something to work towards! So if you’re a fashion blogger (or you know one) that you think would be a good fit please email me at

1512229_10203710170815478_343429378300507904_o“‘Twas the morning after The CFL Awards in the Cosmopolitan office, not a creature was stirring, not even the interns.”

Just kidding, I was up at 6:00 this morning after working until almost 11 last night. Ah well, the life of the rich and famous penniless intern comes at a price. But as exhausted as I am, and as sore as my feet may be from running around in 5 inch stilettos last night, I am still beaming from ear to ear because last night was one for the books. 10257536_10203710132414518_5283990393307558751_oThe Cosmopolitan for Latinas Awards were last night and as a Cosmo intern I was enlisted to work the party (no complaints here!). Honorary guests included Cosmo’s Latina of the Year, Demi Lovato, Perez Hilton, Jasmine Villegas, Jordana Brewster, Thalia and Rosario Dawson, just 1669778_10203709644082310_4479899958094112158_oto name a few. Now I’ve never been a die-hard Demi Lovato fan, however I have always respected her and deemed her one of the few truly talented people that came out of Disney Channel, so I’m not gonna lie, meeting her in person was pretty damn cool. The girl also had flawless skin, I mean seriously flawless, she’s probably one of the few people that doesn’t secretly filter photos that they hashtag “#nofilter”, because let’s be honest, most of those are totally filtered. She also was rocking some killer Miu Miu shoes, I swear I saw half the Cosmo staff drooling over them at one point. After completing my intern duties of creating and passing out goodie bags, greeting guests, and setting place cards, I was allowed to enjoy cocktail hour and dinner along with the rest of guests that were important enough to receive an invitation to this exclusive Cosmo event. The decor was very Cosmo – think hot pink, bright colors, and over the top, and it definitely helped to create an exciting, fun environment. All of the award winners made great speeches, especially Perez Hilton who’s speech was littered with profantities and expletives; but I mean really, would you expect anything less?

10368310_10203710137294640_8265937203293998609_oI could sit here and describe every moment to you, but you probably wouldn’t read it and some things are better kept to myself. All in all, the perks of working at Cosmo are pretty sweet if I do say so myself. Today I am off to help film a reality TV series with Revlon, and start preparing for our Cosmo/CFDA Fashion Career Summit event next week with Joanna Coles, Rebecca Minkoff and a bunch of other special guests! More details to come, things just get more and more exciting from here on out. Stay tuned.

Welcome to the Big Apple

Cosmopolitan_logoAfter a long drought, I have finally decided to refresh Dry-Clean Only and get back into the blogging business! I moved myself (and my $600 worth of overweight luggage) to New York City about 3 weeks ago and it’s definitely been the roller coaster ride of a lifetime. I am interning with Cosmopolitan Magazine (yes, THE Cosmopolitan Magazine, I know, I’m still in shock) this summer for 110299967_10203567744134900_7616949784590298394_n2 weeks and I couldn’t be more excited about it. Each day I get to immerse myself into a world that I used to think was only possible in my dreams, or on MTV as I watched reruns of Lauren Conrad on The Hills countless times. I’ve only been here three weeks and I’ve already learned more about Cosmopolitan and the business as a whole than I’ve ever learned in my countless college courses that are supposedly going to prepare me for “real life”. This experience has already totally changed my outlook on my future, and what I once thought was possible, isn’t even the tip of the iceberg. The women at Cosmopolitan are some of the most impressive, intelligent, inspiring people I have ever had the pleasure of knowing and with them as my mentors the sky is the limit. Cosmo has opened so many new doors for me (doors I didn’t even know existed), and I couldn’t be more appreciative of this amazing opportunity. I’m astonished at the amount of trust they have placed in my hands and I’m both honored and flattered to be trusted by such a prestigious corporation. I can’t wait for all of the exciting things that this summer will bring and there are some crazy projects in the works that would surely make jaws drop – but for now, I’ll just have to keep them to myself. Now I’m off to prepare for our CFL Awards honoring Demi Lovato tonight, pictures to come! Look out for some big renovations on and stay tuned for lots of new content.

Valentine’s Day Gift Guide!

While some of us in the midwest are still fighting the polar vortex, a holiday that might help to warm up our hearts is quickly approaching – Valentine’s Day. Now if you’re one of those cryptic people that despise Valentine’s Day and everything it stands for (yeah, love totally sucks right?), then this post is not for you and you can see yourself to the red X at the top of the screen now! However, if you’re normal and you actually have a heart, keep reading for Valentine’s Day gift guides and outfit tips so you can look and feel your very best!
Heart rose petals
First off, let’s talk about Valentine’s Day gifts. Ah, the pressure. Whether you’ve been dating for 4 years or 4 minutes, Valentine’s Day presents can put us all in a tizzy. First let’s focus on the more serious relationships. If you’ve been dating long-term you should probably know something about what they like (if not, maybe you should be reevaluating that relationship), so stick to what you know!
6 Hearts of Reconciliation - Lent 4
-Do you have a favorite restaurant to go to together? Take them there!
-Do you have a favorite movie? Watch it together!
-Do you have a special inside joke? Use that to your advantage!
Valentine’s Day gifts shouldn’t be about how much money you spend. If you’ve got the money and you want to spend it, by all means, do what you want! However, your gifts should be something personal and special since this holiday is dedicated to how much you love one another! Personally I prefer to go the joke route when it comes to Valentine’s Day. Last year I bought my boyfriend a variety of things including superhero socks (because he is superhero obsessed, definitely a kid at heart), a chocolate “boyfriend” equip with a six pack and heart boxers (because why not?), and the UGLIEST stuffed animal I could find at the local grocery store. Making Valentine’s Day presents more casual takes the pressure off and just allows you to focus on what’s really important – each other! :)
If you’ve been dating for about 4 minutes, still stick to what you know about them and don’t get too serious about it! If you start dropping major dough on someone you’ve barely defined the relationship with, your going to scare them off! Keep it casual with some candy, a stuffed animal (preferably the ugly ones), or flowers – typical and cheesy, yes, but you won’t freak them out by getting too personal or lovey dovey. And don’t think that just because you’ve been dating for 2 seconds that you get a free pass on Valentine’s Day (unless you’ve discussed it)! Everyone likes to feel special, even something small is better than nothing! Below are some perfect ideas for Valentine’s Day gifts for every level of your relationship! Check out #2, one of my personal favorites from and for all of the best V-Day goodies for your loved ones!

Rain, Rain, Go Away…

While it’s obvious that my heart lies with riding boots, they aren’t the only type of boots you’ll be needing this fall/winter if you live in the cold like me! When the skies open up and it starts to rain, snow, sleet and hail, you’re definitely not going to want to take your riding boots out to play! That’s why it’s important to invest in some weather boots to get you through. Personally I have been really impressed with the rain boots/weather boots this season because they’re far more stylish than ever before! Some of them don’t even look like they are rain boots! Does it get better? Stylish, sleek, and weather-resistant. Get at me. While I’m loyal to my hunters when the rain is really comin’ down, there are a few other weather boots that have stolen my heart this season, the first one being the rag and bone x Hunter collection. It was love at first sight lemme tell ya! They’re so unique and I love love love the zipper detailing. rag and bone has and always will be one of my all time favorite brands, but they really hit this design out of the park. The boot is also very slimming and fit to your leg, unlike a lot of weather boots which are clunky and large. The price is a little steep, but if you’re willing to invest in a stylish pair of rain boots, these are definitely ones to consider.
720X254_HunterRagBone_UKHunter Boot ImageryIf you’re looking for a little bit more of a standout rain boot then Burberry has some amazing new styles that I just personally couldn’t keep my hands off! They’ve got a bunch of new styles available this season including plaid, colored, studded, and buckle detail rain boots all available in tall and short. I fell in love with the tall plaid ones and recently added them to my wardrobe, because, well, I just couldn’t resist. I’ve been on a Burberry kick lately, the whole brand is so classy, respectable and polished – I mean honestly, what’s not to love?

burberry-logoburberry bootsand now, last but not least, Hunter. While Hunter is a great brand and I love their products, I think it’s fun to step outside of the box and get a pair of rain boots that’s a bit more unique than something that everyone and their mother has. Yes, I do have Hunters, I actually have two pairs – red and turquoise. And yes, I will continue to wear them, but it’s definitely fun to have options and to sport rain boots that are both fashionable and functional. However, if your heart lies with Hunter, check out these fun colors and invest in one that’s both versatile and unique! My favorite website for hunters is because they have cheaper prices than in the USA, different colors than the USA, AND incredibly fast shipping! Too good to be true? Nope, just an awesome find! :) So quick, go find yourself some cute weather resistant boots before you’re stuck splashing around in your riding boots (the horror)! Happy Tuesday!

Fall Boots!

fall-clip-art-11 When you think of fall what are the top three things that comes to mind…? Hmm.. let’s see.. my list probably goes a little something like this…
1. Cozy Sweaters
2. Leather Jackets
3. Too many girls in UGG boots
3. Fall Boots

Now whether your list is similar to mine or totally different, one fall necessity for every girl is a good pair of fall boots. It’s time to pack away those flip flops because even though you might claim that your feet aren’t cold in the 50 degree weather, it’s just not right. So let’s get down to business. When you go shopping for your fall boots there are a few questions that you should ask yourself first.

1. Do you already have a pair of boots, and if so, what color are they?
Unless you already have both black and brown boots this is an important question to take into account! Now whether your first pair of fall boots should be black or brown is personal preference, however your second pair should most likely be a color that you don’t already have. Black boots and brown boots are staple items that you should definitely look into investing in (if you haven’t already).

2. Where are you going to be wearing your fall boots?
Now this is another important question to think about. Most fall boots are pretty versatile however there are definitely certain styles that are nicer than others. A nice pair of leather riding boots can be both dressed up and dressed down, and are super classy and cute! However, a more edgy pair of combat boots is a more casual choice and no matter how hard you try, it’s unlikely that you are going to be able to successfully dress up your combat boots. Although, they are really trendy and cute! Again, whatever option you choose is solely personal preference!

3. How much money are you willing to spend?
Personally, I am a quality over quantity kind of girl any day, however, that’s not the case for everyone. When it comes to shoes, I don’t buy them cheap. I’ve come to realize that when I buy cheap shoes they are very rarely comfortable! Since they’re not comfortable, which is an important factor for me, I don’t wear them; what’s the point in having shoes if you’re not gonna wear them? It’s a waste of money and I just can’t justify doing it! Therefore, even though I have to shell out a bit more cash for my shoes, at least I know they’re good quality, they’re comfortable, and that they’re going to last. That is what’s most important to me! So that is what you need to decide, quality or quantity?

After you’ve figured our your answers to these three crucial questions then it’s time to start shopping! Here are my favorite boots for Fall 2013!

5+Bold+Lip+Colors+You+Should+TryThis fall it is all about the bold lips. If you’re not one to normally rock a bold lip then it’s about time to step out of your comfort zone because this season it’s a staple that you can’t go without. Obviously when you choose to sport a bold lip color you need to tone it down in other areas so I would recommend sticking to a more neutral eye when you go to pick up that hot pink or fire engine red lipstick. One of my personal favorite looks is when I’m wearing a more neutral toned outfit and my lip color gives it  that always necessary pop of color. The most important part of your outfit if you’re testing out a bold lip is your level of confidence. If you don’t rock that lip color with some self confidence then this beauty statement will be quickly nixed from your beauty regimen. Not only does a statement lip draw attention to your beautiful smile but it also brightens your natural eye color! I can’t tell you how many times I’ve gotten compliments on my blue eyes when I’m wearing a red lip – it really just makes them pop! So this fall step out of your comfort zone, try something that you’ve never tried before. Don’t shy away from this trend just because you’re not comfortable with it, take a chance! You’ll never know how fabulous a bold lip can be if you never test it out. Here are this season’s hottest lip colors!

1. Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Pur Couture in 13: Le Orange —  The signature color of Kourtney Kardashian and one of the best red/orange lipsticks I’ve ever seen on the market. This lipstick is not only the perfect color, but it’s also extremely nourishing on your lips and will last you for hours. Love it!

2. Lancôme L’Absolu Nu Replenishing & Enhancing Lip Color: Red Chiffon —  The perfect red lip color for every occasion. Enough said.

3. Nars Semi Matte Shocking Pink: Schiap — Every girl needs a perfect “Barbie-pink” lip color. This lip color is only the most perfect hue of pink ever created. Like… no big deal.

4. Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain: Rendezvous – By far my longest lasting, most pigmented lip stain that I have ever tried. Obsessed with this stuff doesn’t begin to do it justice. Not to mention the color is just fabulous. I HIGHLY recommend it.

5. Maybelline New York Color Sensational: Fuchsia Flash –  If you want bold lips then this is the color for you. Nobody could ignore this stand out color even if they wanted to. Go bright or go home!
